Testing for Jewish Genetic Diseases

One in five Ashkenazi Jews is a carrier for a Jewish genetic disease. Last week leaders from South Florida’s four Jewish Federations, Jewish community centers, Jewish Family Service agencies and area rabbis attended the Victor Center’s Summit on Jewish Genetic Diseases at the David Posnack Jewish Community Center’s Orlove Auditorium in Davie. The Sun Sentinel included a story about the summit which quotes Deborah Barbouth, M.D., and Deborah Wasserman, M.S., of UM’s Victor Center for the Prevention of Jewish Genetic Diseases.
