Master of Science in Genomic Medicine Capstone Poster Symposium 2019

On March 13, 2019, the Department held the Master of Science in Genomic Medicine (MSGM) Capstone Poster Symposium to celebrate the achievements of the Spring 2019 MD/MS degree candidates. During the Symposium, the candidates presented an overview of their research work in an area of genomic medicine followed by a comprehensive poster session where they presented the full details of their Capstone experience. The breadth of research topics was wide and included heart disease, infertility, deafness, intellectual disability, eye disease, and genomic medicine education. All students are paired with mentors from the University of Miami or outside institutions to provide guidance, feedback and encouragement.

The Dr. John T. MacDonald Foundation Department of Human Genetics offers a four-year concurrent Master’s Degree in Genomic Medicine for existing MD students to provide students with the background, knowledge and understanding to integrate genomics into clinical practice in order to promote excellence in patient care. Students are trained in genomic and precision medicine, and trained in diagnostic genomic tests, high throughput sequencing, pharmacogenomics and the newest genomic concepts and clinical approaches. The MSGM program is overseen by Dr. William Scott, Graduate Program Director of the MSGM Program, and Dr. Jeffery Vance, MSGM Capstone Course Director.

We congratulate the Spring 2019 MD/MS degree candidates on their outstanding achievements and wish them the best of luck in leading the next generation of health care professionals!
