The Miami Beach & Health Care Networks of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation Invite You to a Parlor Meeting. The guest speaker will be Dr. Barbouth, Director of the Victor Program for Jewish genetic diseases at the University of Miami. The meeting will take place at a private home on Miami Beach.

Miami Victor Center Participates with the Center of Cancer Prevention and Genetics Presentation on Ashkenazi Jewish Genetic Diseases.
Talia Donenberg, MS, CGC, spoke about BRAC 1 and BRAC 2 and the importance of early detection and genetic counseling.

The Victor Center's Debbie Wasserman, MS, and University of Miami's Stephanie Sacharow, MD, introduced the Center's screening program to fifteen pediatricians. Dr. Sacharow, of the genetics department of University of Miami, gave a presentation called "What’s New In Genetics at the University of Miami" which discusses newborn screening and Jewish genetic diseases. The Miami Center understands the importance of not only educating our target population of young adults, but the importance of spreading education to obstetricians, pediatricians, primary care physicians, and Jewish community leaders.

The Miami Victor Center hosted a Rabbinical Luncheon for the Board of Rabbis of the Palm Beach Counties. Dr. Deborah Barbouth presented, "A call to action for rabbis and community leaders" and the importance of sharing this information with their congregants and engaged couples.

The University of Miami Launches the New Victor Center for Jewish Genetic Diseases

Temple Beth Am in Pinecrest was the place to be seen on Sunday, March 1st. Over one hundred and fifty people gathered to learn about Jewish Genetic Diseases at the Victor Center for Jewish Genetic Disease Educational Fair. Grandparents, parents, students, engaged couples, newlyweds, singles, Rabbis, OB/GYNs,and lay leaders all met to learn about our program and to be given the opportunity to be screened for nine Jewish genetic diseases. Many genetic counselors, genetic residents and families of affected children came to support the mission of the Center and to help spread awareness.

Miami Victor Center Hosts Educational Fair with the Matthew Forbes Romer Foundation
- October 12, 2008 - Free Screening and Educational Fair
The University of Miami's Victor Center for Jewish Genetic Diseases hosted a free screening and educational fair at the University of Florida on Oct. 12. The goal was to educate individuals of Ashkenazi Jewish decent about the genetic diseases that are more common among Jewish populations. Local high school, UF and Santa Fe College students attended, as well as young professionals between the ages of 18 and 44. Guests also included Dr. Deborah Barbouth, assistant professor of pediatrics for UM and the director of the Miami Victor center, and Dr. Adele Schneider, the director of clinical genetics at Einstein Medical Center and director of the Victor Center in Philadelphia.
